Meet our Instructors

John Massarelli - President & Owner

The former Canton Central Catholic all Ohio catcher and University of Akron MVP was drafted in 1987 in the 8th round by the Houston Astros. After an 11 year playing career he has managed professionally for 14 seasons. In 2013 he was named Malone University hitting coach. In 2016 Massarelli will mark his 29th season in professional baseball and his third season as Manager and Director of Baseball Operations for the Kansas City T-Bones in the American Association. Massarelli has been inducted into the University of Akron Athletic HOF, Greater Akron Amateur Baseball HOF and the Stark County Baseball HOF.

Dave Schaub - Hitting/Softball Coordinator

Schaub will begin his seventh season of professional baseball as the Hitting coach/3rd base coach for the Kansas City T-Bones in the American Association. He completed the 2013 season coaching the Ohio Elite 18U summer team finishing with a 35-6 record. From 2009-2012 he was the hitting coach for the Lake Erie Crushers, an independent minor league team in Avon, OH. Before joining the Crushers, Schaub spent 6 years as the head JV/assistant varsity baseball coach at Canton Central Catholic High School and amassed a career record of 134-39. Schaub helped the Crusaders to four regional appearances, one State Final 4 and in 2008 to a Division III State Championship. Prior to his coaching career Schaub played at Division III power Ohio Wesleyan University. At OWU, he was a three year letterman, part of two 40 win seasons, three conference championships, and four NCAA regional births. After four years at OWU, Schaub earned his bachelors degree in Sports Management. Schaub graduated from Canton Central Catholic and earned All Ohio honors as a senior.

Chris Steinborn - Pitching Coordinator

Steinborn brings to the staff seven years of professional pitching experience and fourteen years of private and small group instruction experience. Chris most recently coached the 16U Mashfactory Elite, Massarelli Baseball Schools new summer baseball program. Prior to this he managed the Stark County Terriers Collegiate summer team in 2013 and 2014. Drafted in 2002 he played professionally for 7 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres before finishing in the Atlantic League. Chris trains in all aspects of pitching from weight training, flexibility, plyometrics, agility, core strength, mobility, mechanics, mental preparation and toughness, pitch selection and improvement, grips, throwing programs and velocity programs.

Nick Maragas - Mashfactory Elite Coordinator

Maragas was one of Massarelli’s first students who went on to play professional baseball. He was an All Federal league player at Jackson High School, and at the University of Cincinnati was a finalist for the “JOHNNY BENCH AWARD” which recognizes the nation’s top catchers. Maragas signed a professional contract with the Lake Erie Crushers and helped them to the league championship in 2009. In 2016 Maragas will coordinate Massarelli Baseball School's travel baseball program, the MashFactory Elite, at the 14U - 18U level.
